DAVAO CITY, Dec. 7 — A Davao contingent composed of six members selected from the information and communication technology (ICT) industry sector in the region is expected to be in Singapore in late January 2010 on a benchmarking travel mission.

Organized by the ICT industry cluster team headed by Wit Holganza of MTC Academy, the Davao ICT contingent will meet with their counterparts at Singapore higher education institutions (HEIs) for in-depth briefings in areas of curriculum, instruction, research and communication.

“We’ll link up with Singapore’s academe, industry and government and explore possible partnership programs with higher institutions there that might be interested to engage with us on various areas of ICT,” Holganza said.

The ICT industry cluster team has been contacting and consulting with a number of higher education institutes in Singapore specializing in ICT training and education in late November this year.

“We tried to explore possible training programs in Singapore that we can tie up with our Davao ICT training programs,” Holganza said.

These preliminary contacts with Singapore were made more than a month before the Davao ICT contingent leaves this southern Philippine city for Singapore in late January next year.

Holganza said this benchmarking trip to Singapore is part of the ICT industry cluster plan to boost the growth of the ICT industry sector in the Davao region.

This project is under the umbrella of the Davao Industry Cluster Capacity Enhancement Project (DICCEP), a joint project of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
